European chic : an interior style about old and new
My latest obsession on interior styles is something I call “European Chic”. Well, it is certainly a name I came up rather than a well defined category, but you get the idea: something inspired by Europe homes, and chic, AKA modern-ish. I love a space that reminds me of old houses in European with history, yet it doesn’t feel old. Just like those in the movies 😉
What really fascinates me is the juxtaposition of vintage and modern in this style. On one hand, you got some vintage inspired furnitures that looks European, and old architecture details. On the other hand, the space is styled with a modern esthetics. Sometimes it is the paint color that feels current, other times it could be a piece of abstract art, a geometric light fixture, or a pice of furniture with sleek lines.

I have been curating a Pinterest board with the same name, but I want to share a few of my favorite spaces over here:
This space reminds me of Paris. High ceiling with rich architecture details in the picture frame molding and dramatic crown molding, this space doesn’t feel old nor opulent. It is clean and modern, but with personality, thanks to the modern furnitures. I especially love a marble fireplace that I’ve been planning to get one for our living room.
I’m in love with this space. It looks pretty simple, but this space just looks like it is filled with stories. The round cut glass vase is so on point that I had been searching to get one for a while for my dining room. Love these classic European style chairs as well.
Look at this variegated rubber plant – so impressive! The moody dark green wall also makes a great backdrop for the plants to shine. A dining room like this will make every meal delicious.
What I like about European chic style is spaces in this style can range from old world or modern. This space is probably more on the “old” side of the scale, but it feels classic rather than dated. This peach-blush paint color is so beautiful, working well with the warm nickel tone in those fixtures.

The furnitures and fixtures choices are classic European which can feel a bit old, but the white wall and uncluttered layout balance it out really well.
This space reminds me of some restaurants I visited in Paris. The sage-gray wainscoting is so cute. Also love the pendant lights.
This space is from clothing store Sezane. I like this style so much that I’m using it as home design inspiration. A space like this feels casual and inviting, making great inspiration for dining room or sitting room.
A lot of Anthropologie’s furniture and decor pieces reminds me of European chic style. Velvet, use of brass, and classic lines make this space looks like a Parisian apartment.
So that’s all spaces I’d like to share at this time. Have you noticed spaces like these? How would you call this style? So many time I tried to find simple words to describe a style but really naming a style is difficult!
