9×9 Bathroom Layout Ideas for a Super Functional Space

Designing a bathroom layout in a 9×9 space can be an exciting challenge. While this size offers more flexibility than smaller bathrooms, it still requires thoughtful planning to make the most of every square foot and create a sense of spaciousness, whether you are planning out your dream master bathroom or creating a luxurious guest bathroom.

In this post, I’ll share 9 floor plans for 9×9 bathrooms to help you visualize the potential of your space, whether you’re remodeling an existing bathroom or planning a new build.

Understanding the Dimensions of a 9×9 Bathroom

A 9 ft by 9 ft bathroom offers 81 square feet of space, providing significantly more flexibility than smaller bathrooms, such as 5×8 bathroom or 5×7 bathroom layouts. This extra space allows room for multiple features(freestanding tub, double vanity, etc) to co-exist without feeling cramped.

Typically used as a master bathroom, the 9×9 layout is similar to an 8×8 bathroom but offers just a bit more room to work with, which allows for more design possibilities!

Layout Ideas for 9×9 Bathrooms

Designing a 9×9 bathroom can be overwhelming, especially when trying to optimize every square inch while creating a functional and luxurious space. To make things easier, we’ve sketched out 9 floor plans featuring different combinations of fixtures like showers, bathtubs, vanities, and extra storage.

These layouts are designed to provide you with inspiration and new ways to approach space planning. Remember, these are just starting points, so don’t hesitate to customize them to fit your needs!

Some customization ideas:

  • Move the door to any wall without a fixture or built-in obstruction
  • Swap the order of two fixtures on the same wall to clear the window
  • Size up or down vanity or shower niche when space allows

Idea #1: Double Vanity with Storage Cabinet

9 by 9 bathroom layout with storage space

In this layout, I’ve included a 72” double vanity alongside a storage cabinet that’s about 30” W x 24”. The cabinet offers generous storage for toiletries and bath linens. You might consider omitting the dividing wall to create additional space for the cabinet.

On the opposite wall, you can extend the walk-in shower up to 6 feet or allocate more space to the toilet niche.

I’ve positioned the door on the bottom wall, but you can move it to the opposite wall if you prefer.

Idea #2: Double Vanity with Makeup Desk

Similar to Idea #1, I’ve dedicated one wall for the toilet and walk-in shower. In this floor plan, I’ve rotated the toilet and made the walk-in shower a little smaller (56” x 36”) compared to Idea #1.

On the opposite side, there’s a 77” double vanity and a 32” wide makeup desk for applying makeup or engaging in skincare activities. You can adjust the proportions between the double vanity and makeup desk to suit your preferences.

Idea #3: Bath Tub and Walk-In Shower

This layout highlights a 30” x 60” standard-sized bathtub, perfect for those who love bathing! This leaves 43” for a walk-in shower. Along the right wall, I’ve also included a 72” long double vanity.

You can add a dividing wall between the vanity and toilet if you prefer more separation between these two fixtures.

Idea #4: Double Vanity with Linen Cabinet

9 ft by 9 ft bathroom floor plan

In this example, I’ve placed a 72” double vanity and toilet on one wall, with a partition or full-height wall dividing them. On the opposite side, there’s a 56” x 36” walk-in shower and a tall linen cabinet that’s 36” wide.

I’ve set the cabinet to be 14” for easy access to towels or toiletries, but you can expand it to 24” and add drawers for more storage space.

Idea #5: Freestanding Tub with Compact Shower

This design features a 60” x 30” freestanding tub along the top wall, ideal if you have a window with private views, making bathing a delightful experience!

A 56” x 36” shower in the bottom-left corner efficiently combines bathing and showering options.

The vanity is 72”, but you can extend it a few inches for a custom vanity if you wish to steal more space from the toilet niche. Just ensure you have at least 30” for the toilet niche.

Idea #6: Toilet Room and Long Vanity

In this 9’ x 9’ bathroom, I’ve placed a double vanity along an entire 9-foot wall, maximizing storage space! You can keep the vanity at the same height or add tall cabinetry to the center or sides if more storage is needed.

On the opposite wall, there’s a water closet with a pocket door for added privacy, along with a 60” x 34” walk-in shower.

Idea #7: Single Vanity with Bathtub

This layout features shower spaces as you enter the room, with a 43” x 34” shower on the left and a 60” x 30” bath on the right. I’ve placed the toilet and single vanity on each side of the opposite wall.

In this layout, a 48” single vanity will fit the space while still providing some storage.

Idea #8: Toilet Room with Corner Door

A 72” wide double vanity spans most of the bottom wall, while a compact shower is positioned on the top left. The toilet room in the top-right corner offers more privacy.

This layout provides flexibility for door placement. You can keep it in the bottom left corner or move it to the left or right wall.

Idea #9: Single Vanity with Storage Cabinet

This layout features a 60” wide single vanity sharing the wall with a 43” x 32” shower space. On the opposite side of the door, I’ve placed the toilet on one side and a cabinet on the other for extra storage, such as spare toiletries and bath linens.

In this design, you can move the door to the left or right of the same wall and just adjust the position of the toilet or cabinet accordingly. Alternatively, you can move the door to the left or right wall, wherever there’s space. The possibilities are endless!
