Nowadays, most of us have to work from home and our home may not have been fully set up due to this sudden change.
So today, I’m recommending some of my favorite desks that are not only practical but also stylish. I’m hoping not only it will help you to choose a desk that works for your need, but it makes your home office look nice.
I’m also including one of my favorite desk that I think is the best value in this list. So keep reading if you are interested.
Before I dive into the details, here’s my top 3 choices based on your needs:
✅ Budget friendly
✅ Great as computer desk
✅ Budget friendly
✅ Great for small space
✅ Lots of storage
✅ Great for farmhouse style
Why do you need drawers for your desk?
In my personal experience, desks with drawers are just more functional, compared to desks with shelves or using a separate cabinet next to your desk.
In fact, for my kitchen cabinets, all of the lower cabinets are drawers. It’s a lot easier to take things out, especially when there’s a depth of more than 12 in.
For shelvings, sometimes you have to move the front items away, in order to reach to the items on the back. But for drawers you just slide it open, and everything is within your sight.
Additionally it offers hidden storage which means you can contain your mess. – Especially useful for me since a messy desk makes me less productive and gives me anxiety.
With that being said, I’m recommending my favorite desks with drawers options right below.
Most of them are really affordable since I don’t like to break the bank when buying functional furniture.

Loring Wood Writing Desk with Drawers from Target
I’m putting my favorite desk as the first one.
In fact, I almost bought this desk a few years ago while I was still living in an apartment. Then we ended up buying a house and renovating our home without a home office for a couple years.
I love this desk with a drawer unit for two reasons.
First of all, it is very pretty and clean. The vintage oak finish is so on trendy these days, giving it a light and casual vibe. It can almost work with any interior style.
What’s more, it comes with power outlets and USB ports. Honestly not many desks have that function. This will allow you to keep your cord organized so much better.
All the power cord will be hidden under the cubby.
This will save you money because you don’t need to buy any cable organizer.
It has a decent surface area (42” x 20”) means you can spread out your paperwork, making this desk the perfect blend of form and function.
Best desk with drawers for smaller spaces
I’m putting these two options together because they are both for smaller spaces, as their width are 36 inches or under.
They works great because they take a smaller footprint while still offering some storage space. If you have a multi-function space, chances are you might have a smaller square footage to place your desk in. This is where these desks come in handy.
Although the white ladder desk comes with one drawer and quite a few shelving areas. I also like that it takes advantage of the vertical space which is so smart.
It is a desk with great value given the style and how much storage space it has.
The mid-century modern style desk has a great style. I also love the brass accent on the drawer handle and the desk feet. They make your work space look more sophisticated.
Desks with storage for different interior styles
This desk is slightly more musculine and can work for both traditional or modern style.
So if you are looking for a desk that looks slightly more substantial or wanting a more gender neutral desk, this can be a great option.
This desk features a unique X-style frame and clean lines to give your room a modern feel.
It has three drawers in two sizes, so you can use them for different types of storage. Such as using the smaller drawers for stationeries and the center large one for papers and notebooks.
I also like that it has a foot rest between the desk legs.
Modern computer desk with two drawers
If you prefer to choose desk with a simple silhouette and fit into a very modern space, this computer desk could be a good choice.
It has a simple but clean shape. I also love that it has black metal legs that can work well if you have other black metal accent in your space. You can check out all the available colors here.
Light gray mid century modern desk.
This desk has a fun color and is current on sale.
Not many desks with drawers in the market come with light gray color.
Honestly light gray is probably one of my favorite colors. It has more personality than white while doesn’t stand out too much that breaks your home style.
If you want your work space to look more serene or hip this desk can be a great option. It also comes with a few more fun colors.
Best desk with drawer for $200+
If your budget allows, this wood desk is a great option as it’s quite a big: 60in wide by 28in deep.
It has three drawers and four open shelves which offers ample storage for your office supplies.
It has a vintage and rustic vibe which I love. Great for traditional homes!
In fact, I’ve been eyeing this stylish desk for so long that I included it in one of my home office mood boards.
Hope it gives you some inspiration on how to style it for your working space.
If your space is more modern or mid-century inspired, this white desk can add a lot of style to your work from home setting.
It combines white finish with wood tone which adds a lot of interest. It also offers both drawer storage and cubbies for a relatively small desk.
I also love that it has a hole for cables so you can keep your computer cables organized. You can check it out here.
How about desks with drawers that are under $100?
While I used to buy the cheapest desk and have learnt my lessons over the years.
Because desk is such a practical piece of furniture, buying the cheapest one may not bring the most value to my life.
Unless you are getting a desk for a couple months usage only, I would encourage you to invest a little bit more for a better quality and drawers. That’s because most cheap desks don’t come with drawers, and if they do and are under $100, the quality is usually not very high.
Ikea do have some desks with drawers that are a little bit under $100, such as their MICKE desk large and small. But the thing is, both of them are out of stock for most US stores.
And that’s also the reason why I’m not recommending Ikea desk with drawers since you cannot buy them.
Speaking of that, I’ve noticed a lot of Ikea furniture is out of stock in my local store. This is probably due to the pandemic that there’s just not enough supply.
However, I have found this desk with drawer units which is just shy of $100 and has some good reviews.
The design is based on Ikea Alex desk(which is also out of stock these days), but cheaper! It also offers two additional drawer fronts so you can mix and match the style.
You can check it out here.
DIY desk built-ins with drawer unit
If you are very handy, and don’t mind put in the extra work, you can consider building your own desk.
One of my most popular posts is to hack Ikea Alex desk and turn it into an office built-in.
It costs me under $500 which is slightly more expensive than the desk with drawer options I shared above, but considering how large it is and it is custom to my space, I’m very happy with it.
You can check out my DIY desk tutorial here. Could be a good option if you live in your own house.
And here’s a video explaining how I put it all together:
Best desk with drawers conclusion
With so many desks with drawer options listed above, I hope you’ll be able to find the one that fits your needs and also your esthetics (which I think is equally important :P).
To summarize my recommendations:
✅ If you have a limited budget, and want to use it for a computer or laptop, this desk with power outlet and usb port is a steal! It is also very stylish in my opinion since I almost bought it a couple years ago back before my big move.
✅ For smaller spaces, this ladder desk is quite narrow and can almost fit in any space. I also love how it leverages vertical space so well.
✅ If you have a slightly bigger budget, consider getting something more substantial such as this wide desk with shelves for more work area. It also offers generous drawers and shelf space for you to store documents and stationaries.

How to choose the right desk for your needs?
So How to choose the right desk for your home office setup? Here are few important factors to consider based on your need. And I call them 3”S” 😛
Space
First of all, understand how much space you have in your home office or office “nook”.
Desk comes with a variety of width and depth, so understanding your space is important.
If you have the luxury to have a big empty space, you might have more wiggle room on selecting from a range of desks.
On the other hand, if you have a small space, do read the desk dimensions to make sure it fits your space. Such as a ladder desk with smaller footprint but decent storage.
Additionally, how much space you need for your day to day tasks. Do you need a computer desk? Or do you need a writing desk? If I need a desk to do crafting or art, I will mostly likely search for a large desk with a decent width and depth.
If I want to use it as a computer desk, I will need at least 20 inches so I can place my monitor and keyboard.
Even with a laptop, I would like my arm and wrist to have somewhere to rest for better ergonomics.
Style
Now, with function considered, let’s talk about form. Your home office desk will take a good amount of space, so it is critical to think about what interior style you would like your desk to be.
When choosing a desk, I like to consider the interior style of the surrounding space.
For example, my home office is a mix of transitional and modern, so I picked my desk that looks more simple and streamlined.
If your home is farmhouse, or mid-century, it would be best to choose your desk that is similar to your existing space. In that case, you desk will add style to your office, rather than breaking the style. Such as this rustic style desk, or this mid century modern desk.
In this post, I’m recommending a range of desks that are in different style so you can choose based on your space.
Another big factor is color, as color places a huge role on whether your desk will look good in your work from home space. I generally like to choose a lighter color desk because it makes my space look bigger.
But if my space is moody and dark, I’ll choose a darker color desk so things will look more harmonious.
If your space is more colorful with tons of personality, a desk with color can be a great option too and add some fun to your office, such as this desk that comes in several unique colors.
Storage space
Last but not least, consider how much storage space you need from your desk.
Note that a lot of desks in the market don’t have drawers or shelves. But overtime I have learnt that instead of always buying the cheapest desk, I would prefer to spend a little more to get some drawers.
I used to buy the cheapest desks with absolutely no storage space, and as a result, I had to spend more money on freestanding storage cabinets. Plus, they usually take more floor space and don’t match with my existing task.
Between drawers and shelves, I much prefer to drawers. And that’s why for the entire desk round up, I’m focusing on only desk with drawers.
