Spring decoration makes me smile
It is about the time for a spring refresh for my home. Although the winter is not very cold in Northern California, I’m looking forward to spring every single day! While impatiently waiting for spring to come, what is a better way to look forward to spring than decorating your home with spring decors? And what is a better place to decorate than entryway console table? It is the first thing you see when you enter your home – don’t you want it to be full of spring feel which gives you a big smile on your face and warmth in your heart? It is also a great way to wow your guest when they come to your home.
Spring decoration doesn’t have to cost any money
I’m always kinda frugal/resourceful in terms of decors: we have financial goals to reach while paying off our mortgage, and I’m a minimalist. So I don’t want to have too much decor that will take time to manage and add mental load. Besides, our house is very small, only 970 sqft. So I bet you can imagine we basically don’t have much storage space for luxury things like seasonal decors.
For this spring decoration, I challenged myself to not spend any money on buying things, but to decorate entryway table for spring with what I have.
How to decorate console table for spring
I have some frequent items on my console table: table lamp, a wicker basket for wifi router, and a vase of faux eucalyptus. When I picked what decor goes on the table, I specifically picked things that are neutral enough to be displayed year around in my home. So when I decorate for spring, I just need to bring a few elements that add spring vibe to the vignette.
To decorate for free, I was scanning(in my mind) through all the home decors I have and label them with color. Since it is for spring decoration, I definitely need a soft warm color as the main color.
First, I decided the theme color is yellow. Why? Because I really want to have free flower on the table and there’s tons of free yellow flower on my front yard! Those are clover flowers, also know as “unwanted weed” locally. They thrive in California winter rain, and bloom with beautiful yellow flowers. So I cut a bunch of them and put them in a glass vase – instant spring vibe right away! To support the yellow theme, I added a summer hat with navy ribbon, and a lemon canvas art purchased from Target.
At this point, I’m pretty sure the star of the show is the yellow flower bouquet. To add an accent color and some contrast, I pulled the navy from the sun hat, and added this navy bird figure. I recently repurposed an old cigar box into a nice bone inlay style box. The color is very neutral, plus the black stripes matches the navy blue accent color.
DIY old book page bird garland
The wall behind the entryway console table is pretty boring: I always wanted to paint the wall but haven’t got a chance to do it. So to add some interest and add more spring feel, I went ahead make an old-book-page bird garland – download the template below to make your own!
I was originally planning to cut out bird shapes from an old book, but the problem is that I don’t have any old book on hand to cut from. So I came up with a smart solution: a combined printable with the old book page and bird template together! It has bird silhouette and old book photo on one page, making the DIY process a lot easier! Just print it out and cut the bird out right away. Grab this free printable and start making this cute bird garland right now for your spring decoration.
Spring decoration key elements
These are the key elements that will help bring out a spring feel in my opinion. They are super accessible too, probably don’t require buying.
Flowers
Nothing says spring more than flowers. If you can get fresh flowers, that’s even better! I got those yellow clover flowers from my front yard for free, so source around your property to see if there’s some wild flowers you can use. Another great option is to buy tulip from Trader Joe’s. They have a dozen of tulips for only a few dollars with so many colors to choose from. I’m sure there will be something match your spring color scheme.
Animal
Animal will add a lot liveliness to your decor. A simple animal book ends or garden statue will work great! And don’t forget to download the bird garland FREE printable to get the exact same garland from my spring console table.
Natural Texture
Using woven items as decor is an easy way to add texture and add more depth to your vignette. They are versatile for both spring and summer decoration. Plus it is super easy to source those from your home. Summer hat, woven basket, you name it!
That wraps up today’s tour of my entryway console table! I hope you are feeling inspired and ready to decorate your home. My entryway just makes me smile every time I come back home.

I didn’t realize that we have so much in common! My small house is 1150 sq ft with minimal storage, and I’m unwilling to cut up a book but LOVE the look. Thanks for the perfect project! Right up my alley.

very lovely, Kelin! I love all the textures and decor combos. And I am very jealous you have blooming flowers in your yard! We still have snow…but the crocus and daffodils are starting to poke through as the snow begins to melt. Won’t be long now.
