Not gonna lie, IKEA is one of the best places to shop for home essentials and home decorations. Since the pandemic started, home owners have been obsessed with IKEA kitchen organizers and IKEA kitchen drawer organizers.
However, not all of their products give the best quality for your needs. In this post, we will be ranking and identifying the best and worst drawer organizer for your kitchen from IKEA.
Ultimate guide to choose kitchen organizers from IKEA
I have a pretty small kitchen with IKEA SEKTION kitchen cabinets, and I love it. Since it’s a small kitchen, organization is very important. A well-organized kitchen allows you to:
- Create more effective space for your necessities
- Save time by quickly finding what you need.
- Keep the kitchen clean and free of clutter.
I’ve shared how I organized my kitchen and some tips to keep a small kitchen hyper functional ,that you can read here. So this time, I thought I’d share a more comprehensive guide focusing on choosing kitchen organizers, specifically organizers from IKEA since many of them feature smart design and are very affordable too!
IKEA stores are pretty massive and sometimes (or most of the time) we tend to get overwhelmed with the number of items that may lead us to choose the wrong products. As a homeowner who usually shops in IKEA, I have non-negotiables that I always keep in mind that helps me save money and choose the best IKEA kitchen organizers for my needs.
Durability
Choose organizers made of durable materials that will last for a long time and stand up to daily wear and tear. This will help you avoid the need to replace organizers frequently and save money in the long run.
Ease of installation
Look for organizers that are easy to install and assemble, as this will save you time and money in the long run. Avoid organizers that require complex assembly or installation, as this can result in additional costs and frustration.
Maximizing storage space
Consider organizers that offer maximum storage capacity while taking up minimal space. This will help you keep your kitchen organized and clutter-free, without sacrificing valuable storage space. Choose organizers that are adjustable and can be reconfigured as your needs change over time.
IKEA Kitchen Organizers vs other brands
IKEA kitchen organizer works great if you use IKEA kitchen cabinets. Most of them fit like a glove for IKEA kitchen drawers and cabinets plus it is affordable, has many products designed for different situations and you have a lot of customer reviews to check out. Additionally, you can find a lot of information on how to use IKEA kitchen organizers in many creative ways.
Though, there are disadvantages of opting for IKEA brand itself. When shopping online, IKEA is not the best; sometimes their stores are far away from your city, or there are no IKEA stores in your city. It is also important to note that IKEA does not offer a solution to every single problem. There are a number of websites online, such as Amazon, that you can use if you are looking for a particular design or function.
Best IKEA Kitchen Organizers
IKEA kitchen shelf organizer
IKEA has multiple options to choose from for shelf organizers. I have listed two of the best ones that I have personally used and how I used them for my own IKEA kitchen.
VARIERA Shelf insert
This shelf organizer is pretty straight-forward. You can stack multiple laters of these where you can store your plates or fine China. Personally, I use this to store my tea cups and mugs.
OBSERVATÖR Clip-on basket
This clip-on cabinet is very lightweight and can be an alternative to a shelf if you don’t have enough shelf storage. Personally, I have the gold one and I like using this to create an extra layer within the kitchen shelf space to store things.
IKEA kitchen drawer organizer
In terms of drawer organizers, I always choose pieces that make my space look expensive yet sustainable. Here are my top 3 IKEA kitchen drawer organizer picks.
UPPDATERA Flatware tray
This organizer has vertical partitions in between (a very important point for me) and apart from that, it’s also made of bamboo which looks expensive compared to plastic. I mainly use this for my cutleries and chef knives.
Variera storage box high
This kitchen drawer organizer is an ultimate game changer for storing cutting boards! It has clips on the side so it snaps to the side of the drawer. Unfortunately, this product is no longer supplied. However, the Utrustra Partition works similarly as the Variera storage box especially for drawers and shelves.
STÖDJA Flatware tray
If you are looking for a cheaper option than the bamboo one, this is perfect for you. The value is great for its price. I mainly use this flatware tray to store small kitchen gadgets and tools.
IKEA pull-out cabinet organizer
If you are using cabinet doors, a good way to add more storage is to use pull out organizers. They add functionality and style to your space.
UTRUSTA Pull-out rack for cleaning supplies
This is a great solution for storing cleaning tools and supplies since this comes in layers. It is 60” tall and only works for IKEA pantry or tall cabinets.
HÅLLBAR Pull-out frame for recycling
This is similar to a pull-out tray, but it doesn’t take up the entire opening. It’s an excellent solution if you need to remove something small and want to save space for something else.
IKEA under sink organizer
Storage space under the sink is one of the areas in our kitchen that we tend to not mind. A space is still a space, with these IKEA under sink organizers, you’ll have more storage to place miscellaneous items for your kitchen.
UTRUSTA Towel rail
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, vertical storage spaces are my besties! Kitchen towels can be stored on this towel rail which saves horizontal space and takes up vertical space.
VARIERA Plastic bag dispenser
I super love this plastic dispenser; it’s affordable, lightweight and you can attach it to the inside of the cabinet or on the cabinet door.
IKEA Kitchen Organizers to avoid
After years of trial and error, here are the IKEA organizers that do not work in my kitchen. Please note that this is based on personal experience, take it with a grain of salt.
UPPDATERA Spice rack
This spice rack is too narrow for my needs and it can only hold a few spice jars. If you have a few spices to store what you can do instead is you can check out my DIY spice drawer tutorial if you want to make something fit to the size of your spice drawer.
VARDAGEN Jar with lid
This is a great environmental solution. I used it for oats, rice, grains, etc. What I don’t like about this is that the lid has a knob which makes it impossible to stack. It wastes too much vertical space. Instead of this Vardagen Jar, I’d recommend these glass canisters
VARIERA Pot lid organizer
I have had this organizer since we built out IKEA kitchen. I tried to make it work but it never worked. The rod is not high enough for medium to large lids. As a result, the lid will not stand up straight. In addition, there are lots of lid that are curved/dome, plus a knob which is awkward to sit between the two rods. I had to place the lid every other opening. Instead of getting the Variera organizer, I recommend a lid organizer with a complete divider panel like this.
IKEA kitchen drawer organizer summary
I hope you find this post helpful for choosing IKEA kitchen organizers! A well-organized kitchen can truly create more effective space, save time and keep the kitchen clean and clutter-free.

I have experience using most of the listed organizers, and aim to be as transparent as possible for anyone who is looking to organize their kitchens with IKEA products.
